Easier Sad Than Fun

Easier Sad Than Fun was formed in the 1980s in a damp basement in Liège, as a counter-movement to overly cheerful circus clowns. Years of slapstick tumbles and balloon animals had drained them. “Smiling is exhausting, but sadness comes naturally” became their motto. After some initial success, Easier Sad Than Fun disbanded after two years, when the clowns realized they hated all clowns — including each other, and most of all, themselves.
